InDesign PDF output true black
Monitor calibration didnt help me with this one. When trying to output a page layout for a client to preview in pdf, my blacks were converted to grey. So annoying. Here is how I fixed it. I'm posting here so that I'll remember and maybe, just maybe, it will help some random stranger.
InDesign color settings need to be
[edit>preferences>appearance of black]
[On Screen: Display All blacks as Rich Black]
AND more importantly
[Printing /Exporting: Output All blacks as Rich Black].
Now when outputting /Exporting to PDF, under Output make sure color is set to
[Color Conversion: Convert to Destination]
[Destination: sRGB...] (I believe any RGB will work)
[Profile Inclusion Policy: Include Destination Profile]
Reason for this is that typically one is working in CMYK color space in InDesign and you are viewing blacks as true black not the actual CMYK values which appear as dark grey on screen. Oh, it will look very black when it prints. When exporting to PDF with out first changing the destination color space to RGB for viewing on screen, Acrobat interperets the CMYK values as dark grey. Acrobat is not a printer.
